Social Media News – Week of 1/12

Posted on January 13, 2015

It’s amazing to think that we’re already halfway through the first month of 2015! Time really flies when you’re having fun working on amazing projects. Time also seems to fly when you’re checking out what’s changing with the top social media platforms! The major players never miss a beat or take a break, but we’re consistently staying on top of the changes so you don’t have to. Here’s what’s new:

Facebook

Love to share videos on Facebook? Then we have good news for you! In the past year, video views on Facebook have increased 75% globally, and 94% in the US. Those numbers are outstanding; if you haven’t started sharing videos on Facebook, now is definitely the time!

Twitter

Speaking of videos, Twitter is about to make a change to their videos, and it’s great for social media managers! Marketers will soon be able to share 6-second videos and these videos will autoplay in Twitter feeds. After the success Facebook found with autoplaying videos (if you skipped over that last news item, their video views are up 94%), Twitter wants in on this popular form of promotion. Get ready to see these in your feed!

A while back we mentioned that Twitter was planning on introducing “While You Were Away” – a feature that would recap your feed when you check the platform. Well, they’ve started rolling out it to users so look out for it in your feed. Now you have all the more reason to take care in curating your content; the best posts will now be seen even more!

Snapchat

Snapchat Ad

According to a Snapchat-commissioned survey, 60% of users said that they liked Snapchat ads. This is great news for advertisers looking to use the platform. One of the benefits to Snapchat ads is that they are entirely optional; users are not forced to sit through ads, but instead can choose to watch ads, which could be part of the reason that Snapchat ads have received such positive reception.

Google

Google is finally telling advertisers what they want to know: when their video ads are actually being seen. So, if you’re advertising through Google (maybe it’s a YouTube ad, maybe it’s a video banner), you’ll finally be able to know how many people are watching your spots. Content marketers, it’s time to celebrate!

Social media should be a big part of your 2015 digital marketing plan, so staying in the loop with these platforms is essential. Keep up with all of the latest and greatest news by visiting our blog (or social media platforms!) each week for our social media roundup!
